Blog | Andrew Fermor and Ryan Brown-Haysom

Andrew (top) started his legal career with YouthLaw in 2022, having enjoyed volunteering at Auckland Community Law Centre as a law student. He enjoys being part of the YouthLaw team and learning how the law can be used to help young people. Much of his work is in the school-related space, helping students who are facing disciplinary action or struggling to get enrolled and attend school full-time. In his spare time, you’ll find Andrew hanging out with people, reading, or in the great outdoors!

Ryan joined YouthLaw as a volunteer in 2025, became a Law Clerk soon after, and in 2026 became a solicitor. He has a Bachelor of Laws (Honours), as well as an academic background in history, Ancient Greek and Classics. Ryan enjoys being able to use his legal skills and knowledge to help young people and their whānau navigate the legal system. Outside of work, Ryan has impressive collection of books to which he is always adding.
