What happens if I don’t pay my fine?
If you don’t pay the infringement fee within 28 days after you were given it, you will get a reminder notice. If you still don’t pay in the next 28 days, the infringement notice is automatically filed in court, and it becomes a fine. If this happens, you will have 28 days to pay the original amount of the infringement fee plus an additional $55. Even if you make the payment to the original authority after the due date, you will still need to pay the additional $55.
If you don’t pay your fine within the next 28 days, enforcement action will be taken by the court. Another $133 may be added to the amount that you need to pay, and the court can take money directly from your income or your bank account. The court could also clamp your car, seize your car and property, stop you from travelling overseas and suspend your driver licence.
