A unique opportunity exists for an enthusiastic and passionate lawyer to join YouthLaw Aotearoa as a solicitor in our legal team. YouthLaw Aotearoa is a community law centre for children and young people under 25.  We provide four main services to children and young people:

 

We are also undertaking a co-design project with young people to ensure that young people are at the centre of our work and that we are delivering our services in ways that best meet their needs.

An exciting and diverse full time role, the Solicitor will be responsible for providing accurate legal information, advice, assistance and representation to young people or those assisting them through YouthLaw’s advice line and other services that we may develop.  They will also be involved in the development of legal information resources and YouthLaw’s law reform work.

This is a fantastic opportunity to use your legal skills to make a real difference to children and young people in Aotearoa / New Zealand.  You will be part of a friendly and collaborative team and receive generous leave entitlements.  We are also happy to discuss flexible working arrangements and the possibility of part-time or job share arrangements, for the right candidate.

The ideal applicant will have, or be able to quickly develop, an understanding of YouthLaw’s main practice areas which are employment, education, family, criminal and human rights.  They will also have strong communication skills, both orally and in writing, and be able to develop strong working relationships.

Applicants must have a current practicing certificate as a Barrister & Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand and have the right to work in New Zealand. The ideal candidate will also have 1 to 3+ years post-admission practice experience.
